Our school history

The dedication service for R. B. Hudson Middle School was held August 15, 2012 at 6:00 in the Command Center  

R. B. Hudson Middle School has a rich history.  Originally established as R. B. Hudson High School, the school has had four name changes:  Westside Junior High School, Selma Middle CHAT Academy and now R. B. Hudson Middle School.

R. B. Hudson High School counts among its alumni many successful entrepreneurs, pastors, politicians, musicians, advocates, judges, attorneys, educators, actors, government leaders, and community leaders. 

 R. B. Hudson has been designated an official affiliate site of the Selma to Montgomery National Historic Trail in recognition for the important part in which it played in the National Voting Rights Selma to Montgomery march.

R. B. Hudson Middle School was named after Richard Byron Hudson.  He is held in high esteem for his distinguished career in the education field.   Among his many accomplishments are:  Principal of Clark School for 41 years, Secretary, National Baptist Convention for 25 years. Superintendent, Tabernacle Baptist Church Sunday School for 30 years and Endowment Treasurer, Masonic Lodge of Alabama for 20 years.
